Jack's Specialbike

In a year that not only saw Britain host the Olympic Games but also British names dominating cycling worldwide, it seemed only appropriate that there be a Specialbike made to commemorate this. This red-white-and-blue fixed gear model is built around a comfortable British steel frame, paired with classic café bars offering the ideal about-town ride. Componentry from Raleigh and Sturmey Archer continue the Brit theme.

N.B. The frame is drilled for a rear brake, and the rear flip-flop hub has the necessary thread to fit a freewheel if desired.

Specification :-

  • Lugged steel frame w/ chrome fork
  • Raleigh Omega track wheels (machined braking surface), 16t fixed sprocket
  • Sturmey Archer FCT62 42t chainset
  • Continental Ultrasport tyres
  • Dia Compe front brake calliper
  • Sealed bottom bracket
  • Sealed headset
  • 100mm chrome quill stem

Andy's Specialbike - Bumble Bike

Riding around Brighton, you come across some pretty rough roads. You could ride them on a Road Bike but the ride would be harsh at times and those skinny tyres won’t last long. You could ride a Mountain Bike but the knobbly tyres would soon become a drag.

This is a sort of Hybrid, a Hybrid that is designed around Brighton riding conditions. The tyres are the ‘bomb-proof’ Schwalbe Marathons. No tyre is impossible to puncture, but these are amongst the toughest on the market. The wheels are hand trued and double skinned. I have opted for a 3x7 transmission set up. This will give a long life, reliable shifting and won’t need constant fettling to keep it in tune. When parts do wear out, they won’t cost too much to replace. The same goes for the brakes. I have opted for V-brakes as they are solid, reliable and cost effective. There is no need to worry about pad contamination, like you would do with disc brakes.

The key word for this bike is ‘Solid’.
