Darren's Specialbike - the Tricolore

Introducing the Specialbike Tricolore.

With such British success in the Tour de France recently, I wanted to make a bike to once again turn the heads of our neighbours across the channel; and what better way than making it resemble their national flag? We think both Mr Cavendish and Mr Wiggins would be proud. Built with comfort, reliability and strength in mind, the Triclore is designed to provide the city gent of taller stature with affordable, stylish everyday transportation.

Fitted with double-wall 26 inch rim wheels and sporting the original Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard puncture resistant tyres, makes it a formidable package to tackle today’s roads. The addition of security wheel skewers front and rear completes the wheel set and helps to minimise the risk of opportunist theft.

Equipped with the simplicity and reliability an 8-speed Shimano Rapid-fire gear system makes negotiating town traffic or tackling hills a breeze. Couple this with a Stronglight™ chainset and large Wellgo pedals (large enough for the chunkiest size twelves!), and you have an excellent platform for getting the power delivered to the rear wheel efficiently.

The bottom bracket and headset are both sealed bearing systems reducing the risk of the elements penetrating these vital moving parts. The power and control of V-brakes provides ample stopping power to bring this beauty to a halt at a moment’s notice. Finished off with an adjustable handlebar stem and comfort gel saddle means achieving the optimum riding position and comfort is a given.

Vive la France!

Matt's Specialbike - Sally the Raleigh

The main idea behind this build was to combine classic elegance with modern day usability and durability. The starting point was a 1980’s Raleigh steel frame which has been given a new lease of life with a navy blue powdercoat. The frame measures 20” which is suitable for a person of around 5’7” upwards.

A simple three speed Sturmey Archer hub gear system provides ease of use and low maintenance reliability. All alloy componentry where possible ensures light weight and rust free performance, of special note are the dual pivot alloy brakes which really bring the riding experience into the 21st Century with excellent all-weather stopping power.

The bike is finished with a full length composite mudguard set and a large wicker basket which hark back to the bikes‘ 30-year-old roots.

The end result is a real head turner – comfortable, stylish and reliable, this bike will give the owner years of cycling enjoyment.
